Reflections while at Altoona Junior High School
"My last goal is to come up with some techniques to help manage the behavior in my general music class. There are some students who seem interested, but they appear nervous about the other student’s reaction. They really enjoyed my lesson on Bach when I made connections to popular music; therefore, the more information I can find that would prove the relationship of Baroque and Classical to modern music will be the best way to approach each lesson."
"It was really hard at first to have them understand the culture and the piece, but definitely after the PowerPoint presentation I know they finally are starting to make connections and enjoy the piece"
"I was able to hold a baritone sectional for all 8th and 9th grade baritones and work with helping them through their voice change problems and also just get inside their head and see how they are feeling when they are in choir. It was clear that some of them feel over whelmed by the sopranos and altos and occasionally feel lost within the class, which I was able to give them tips on what to do in those situations. Also, I asked several of them during the section what they wanted to work on and what they felt needed the most work. It was great to see most of the students in these sections really communicate what needed work and to be a part of the rehearsal in a different way."
"I decided that I would use recordings and recorded accompaniments I created in order to actually conduct the students. I was so impressed at well the students respond to gestures and how enthusiastic they are over actually “making music”. It may seem obvious, but it was awesome to see them react in such a positive manner to these concepts."
