Reflections while at Altoona Elementary Schools
"My sequencing this week was really improved from previous weeks. I was really able to give short steps that led the students to succeed, especially in their composition projects. My feedback is constantly improving and I really think that I am doing a great job of really letting the students know what needs work in a very non-threatening manner. They know exactly what they need to work on, but they are not humiliated about it either."
"When I began my second lessons for my units it was so surprising to see what the students had retained from last week. My kindergarten class sang the one song so much better than when they first learned the song."
"I presented a unit on the Percussion Instrument family and during this unit the students are going to be singing a South African song where they will accompany themselves with percussion instruments. They were a little hesitant to the foreign language, but I found that the way I presented it seemed to help get them interested and therefore not only did they sound so great when singing the song they loved singing it over and over."
"It was very draining to travel between so many schools and I found myself feeling a little lost, now I can't imagine it any other way. I love being able to see so many students and travel throughout the district and really compare students and see how lessons work and don't work and figuring out how I can make each lesson better."
"My feedback has been really strong and I notice that I am able to give effective and correct feedback without being harsh to the students."
"I am getting better and showing instead of talking, but this is still an area of improvement for me. I know that it will always work better for me to model rather than explain, because when I do model the students succeed so much more than when I talk."
"I have been able to plan for a 30 minute lesson very effectively, I always make sure there is a beginning, middle, and end to my lesson and that there is constant music making or talking occurring."
